Project 1: Cell Therapy for Heart Failure

Why Heart Failure?

Heart failure is a life-threatening disease condition endangering over 30 million individuals worldwide. Heart transplantation is the only effective treatment available, but is severely hindered by the lack of donor. Currently, less than 1% of Heart Failure patients may receive transplantation.

The Solution

Patented technologies of HELP Therapeutics allowed the derivation of highly pure cardiomyocytes from induced-pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Transplantation of these cardiomyocytes promoted heart regeneration and functional recovery in non-human primates.

HELP Therapeutics initiated first-in-man clinical study involving the transplantation of iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes (iCMs) into heart failure patients. Cell therapy product based on iCMs is expected to enter the market in 3 years.
